Sometimes we drop our standards, and by that I mean we try supermarket doughnuts.

These are Coles Mini Jam Ball Donuts. They come in a paper bag of 6. The bag should really mention on the front that they are ‘mini’ doughnuts.

Fold where? Oh, there.

I like the way the back of the paper bag has instructions on where to fold it. Is that for the store person or for the customer?

Strawberry jam

They have strawberry jam on the inside that’s fairly runny.

On the outside is a light sugar dusting.

About 6.5cm

They are about 6.5cm wide each. not really big, just couple of mouthfuls each.

The dough has a real ‘mass-produced’ flavour about it. It’s a little bit bitter and has an effect upon the rest of the doughnut.

That looks big… Just a close up

I’m sure that even though they might make them instore, the ingredients are supplied ready made. There is no mixing and measuring.

Can I recommend them? No, not really.

I’m sure kids would love them. But they don’t have the experienced, refined and sensitive tastebuds of a master doughnut connoisseur like myself.

One day, kids… one day.
