Oatley is a quaint suburb in Sydney’s south, with lots of bushland near the river and inflated real estate prices. The residents have fought hard to retain the village atmosphere of its shopping area. Weirdly, the train station is separated from the shopping area by a wide park.

Hummingbird Lane Patisserie, Oatley

Many years ago, I walked into the bakery now called Hummingbird Lane Patisserie to buy a small cake. The girl behind the counter picked it up with her bare hands. Horrified, I walked out and never returned.

I decided it was time to give the bakery another go. I was pleasantly surprised that their sense of hygiene has improved.

In an area with plenty of small stores and cafes selling cakes and other treats, Hummingbird Lane appears to do a good trade.

They had plenty of plain cinnamon doughnuts along with their other small cakes for sale.

The cinnamon doughnut was a little different to other ones, but not in a bad way. In fact, I really enjoyed it.

It was somewhat denser and heavier, and not too oily. The cinnamon sugar coating was a lot lighter than usual, and I didn’t mind that at all.

Quite a nice cinnamon doughnut

I can very much recommend the cinnamon doughnuts at Hummingbird Lane, Oatley.
