When I was in Poland, I knew I was in good donut territory, so I tried to to eat as many donuts as I could. The problem was that Europe was in the grip of a heat wave, and even Poland was so hot I simply wanted fluids rather than sweet donuts.

Having said that, I still tried several donuts in Poland and they were all amazing.

The one I’m talking about here was from a place called Paczkarnia, which is near the Old Town centre in the heart of Krakow.

They had loads of donuts for sale and almost always had people queueing up.

It was a difficult decision, but I got a cherry-filled donut.

It was large, very sweet and beautifully soft.

It had the standard vanilla glazing on the outside.

There was a good amount of the cherry filling, which had chunks of actual cherry and that filled my heart with absolute joy.

I wish I could have had more of their delicious donuts.
