When I travel, I like to go to the lounge if I can. It’s much more peaceful than sitting out in the terminal somewhere. Also, the chairs are comfier and the food is free.

And when doughnuts are on offer, it makes it even better.

This was the case when I travelled recently and I had entry to the Air New Zealand lounge.

They had small doughnuts with pistachio cream filling. Pistachio is far from my favourite flavour, but that was the only option available, so I grabbed one.

It was only small, but it’s just to go with a coffee.

It was very soft even though it was probably thawed from frozen. It had a light coating of soft sugar.

It wasn’t too sweet and the pistachio flavour wasn’t overbearing, so I enjoyed it.

The inside dough was green to represent the pistachio, I guess, and the filling was a caramel colour.

All up, it was okay for an airport lounge doughnut.
