When I went to Vienna recently, I wanted to see if there really was a desk at the airport for people who went to Austria instead of Australia. I had a hunch it was just a joke. I was not able to locate any such desk. Boy, was I disappointed.
The other thing I looked for in Vienna was a good donut. I knew Vienna is renowned for its pastries, but I wanted to know if donuts were among their top tier pastries.
Like the desk at the airport, I never found a really good donut in Vienna.

The one I got from Ströck, which happened to be opposite the hotel I was staying at, was okay but not as outstanding as I’d hoped.
Ströck is a chain of cafes with a wide variety of pastries.

The donut I got was called a Zimt Donut, which apparently means it’s coated in cinnamon sugar.
I did have sugar, but I didn’t taste any cinnamon.
It was a bit firmer than I expected, perhaps even a touch stale. That surprised me – I thought everything in the store was going to be super-fresh.

The donut was fairly large and not overly sweet. It went very nicely with the coffee I had.
By the way, Vienna is a lovely city.
