In my previous posts about Brooklyn Donuts, I have spoken about the great service they offer. In the past, I have only personally bought their donuts at their Miranda outlet. So when I was driving past the Roselands outlet recently, I decided I’d drop in and get a donut and drink. The Roselands outlet is fairly new so I was keen to check it out.
It was a Friday evening, 9:30pm, which I later discovered was 30 minutes until closing. When I walked in, there was no one inside. I mean no one – no one buying, eating or even serving!
I walked around checking out the donuts they had left, which wasn’t many, and none of the flavours I wanted. Still no one around.

Eventually a young girl appeared from a door holding something. I think she may have just cleaned it.
The girl stared at me. There was no smile, no “hello”, nothing but a blank stare.
I told her I was just checking the app. I was looking for what I could order because there were no signs around. I’d say she had already removed everything, including any signs about drinks. I’d also say that at this point she had turned off the coffee machine.
There was still nothing whatsoever from this girl. Eventually I said to here, “You don’t want to serve me, do you?”
She replied, “Nooo,” meaning I’m mistaken.
I considered my options for a moment and decided to walk out.
So, half an hour before closing and service is over.
A message to Brooklyn Donuts – if your staff need 30 minutes or more to clean and close, then shut the doors early. Don’t give people the suggestion that they can go in and order things if that is not the case. Also, train your staff in customer service.
To the young girl who was in the store – learn customer service.
This terrible service has soured my opinion of Brooklyn Donuts.
