South Hurstville Bakery is nothing flashy – but it doesn’t try to be. It’s one of those good ole reliable bakeries run by a Vietnamese family with freshly-made stuff at reasonable prices.

They have doughnuts with Chocolate and Pink icing, plus some cinnamon doughnuts. In this situation, I always think the doughnuts are there as treats for the kids when mum or dad buys the bread. Well ,this kid got a Chocolate Doughnut.

I got a shock when the lady only asked me for $2. Bargain of the week.

So, what was my $2 doughnut like?

Not bad at all.

It was freshly made, perhaps just a tad over-cooked, which made it rather chewy. It was airy and nicely flavoured.

The chocolate icing was good, being soft but not runny. It had chocolate sprinkles on it too.

I won’t say it was the best doughnut in Sydney I’ve had, but I’d happily go back for another.

By the way, don’t bother searching for a website. They are bakers, not social media experts.
