I published a post a few weeks back about a place called Demochi Donut. I had ordered a box of 4 that included 2 cinnamon and 2 strawberry doughnuts.

That post was about the cinnamon doughnut, in which I really didn’t detect any mochi. What about the strawberry one?

I have limited experience with the Japanese rice sweet called mochi. I know it is glutinous, you could almost describe it as rubbery. What I have tried I have enjoyed.

I follow Demochi Donut on social media and they regularly post images and brief videos. It appears that the glazed doughnuts are actually dipped in a flavoured runny mochi before drying out and becoming like a glazing that we doughnut lovers are familiar with.

So I am assuming that my strawberry doughnut was dipped in a similar mochi.

I have to say that it didn’t really taste much different to your average glazing.

The doughnut itself was okay without being outstanding.

On the evening I went there, I didn’t see any of the amazing flavours they promote on their social media pages.

The whole experience was a bit of a let down.

I’m not saying the doughnuts aren’t good, because they are. But they don’t live up to the high expectations I had.

Demochi Donut at Croydon is only open early on Saturday evenings.
