I often stroll around Woolworths to check out their bakery items, but I rarely buy their doughnuts.

However, at their new Pyrmont store, I spotted one I hadn’t seen before. A Vanilla Double Glaze Donut. So I got one.

I was intrigued to know what it tasted like. Double glazing sounds so decadent.

Is double glazing better than single glazing?

Is ‘double glazing’ simply a matter of giving it a second coat of glazing?

Is there a single glaze option at all?

What about a triple glaze option? Or is that taking a path that is just too decadent for Woolworths?

I knew from the outset that the doughnuts were from the commercial manufacturer Bob & Pete’s 100% Yum. They put that on the shelf sticker, so it’s no secret. To most people, it just sounds like another bakery, but we doughnut experts know Bob & Pete’s is a big commercial manufacturer of wholesale baked things.

Interestingly, when I visited the Bob & Pete’s 100% Yum website, the doughnut I bought was listed as ‘Vanilla Glazed Donut’. Where did the word ‘Double’ go?

Who is right? The store that said ‘Vanilla Double Glaze Donut’ or the manufacturer who just calls it a ‘Vanilla Glaze Donut’?

I guess you’d have to go with the manufacturer.

Which leaves me somewhat confused – did I have a single or double glazed doughnut?

I don’t know…

I just don’t know.
