I had a brief chat with the lady running the Quinky Dink Donuts stand at the Peakhurst Foodies Markets. The only doughnuts they had for sale were small Long Johns (should be called Short Johns), so I asked her if they do other doughnuts, for example standard cinnamon. She said they did, as well as many other varieties.

Long Johns aren’t my favourite because I don’t like cream that much – I think it comes from a traumatic childhood experience with bad cream – so I was pleased to hear that they do others.

I asked her if she would be at the Peakhurst Markets every month and she said they would. She explained their strategy was to build up a following in the area and then do Drop Zones.

Drop Zones are when they take a bulk supply of doughnuts to a designated area, such as parks and car parks, and sell boxes of doughnuts straight from the van. They spread the word of where and when they’ll be via social media. It’s a clever strategy for hardworking small-time doughnut makers.

Anyway, I bought a Raspberry Jam Long John.

Long John… or Short John?

It was very light and fluffy. As I said above, I’m not a big fan of cream, but the jam lifted the flavour for me.

Here’s a random video of Quinky Dink at the Markets that they put on their Facebook page. I think the only reason it’s there is to boost their SEO because it really doesn’t bring much else to the party.

Maybe this link will help DomNuts’ SEO – who knows?
