The guys at Krispy Kreme have really picked up their game. They seem to be putting out a new flavour every month. In April they had the Simpson’s Doughnut (which apparently has been extended through May). This month they have the Reese’s Peanut Butter Doughnut.

Reese’s isn’t quite the household name in Australia as it is in America. What’s more, Australians aren’t quite as obsessed with peanut butter as Americans seem to be. That’s not to say we don’t love it. I, for one, do. And I like Reese’s. I actually have a Reese’s T-shirt that I got from the Hershey’s store near Times Square that I like so much I never wear it because I don’t want to ruin it.

Anyway, despite my aversion to KK doughnuts, I had to give the Krispy Kreme Reese’s Peanut Butter Doughnut a try.

Plenty of Reese’s Doughnuts

I went to my local 7/11 who of course are outlets for KK doughnuts. I couldn’t see any of the Peanut Butter Doughnuts in the display case. So, I asked the shop assistant if they had any. She told me that they are kept away from the other doughnuts and individually boxed so people with allergies won’t be exposed to peanuts. Good thinking!

Good stuff for lovers of peanut butter

Here is the official description on the website:
Filled with smooth Reese’s® Peanut Butter Sauce, hand-dipped in choc icing, topped with Reese’s® peanut butter chips and vanilla biscuit crumbs and finished with a light choc drizzle.

Let’s quickly analyse that:
Peanut butter sauce – I guess it’s runnier than peanut butter.
Hand-dipped – does someone actually do this by hand? Don’t they make machines for that?
Choc icing – calling it ‘choc’ means it’s probably imitation chocolate.
Light choc drizzle – same comment as above regarding ‘choc’.

It was quite good. The peanut butter inside is creamy and smooth.  The chips of peanut butter on top are interesting – I don’t think I’ve had peanut butter chips before.

This one is only available during May, and interestingly it’s not mentioned at the KK website, so maybe it’s a 7/11 exclusive – not sure. Either way, if you want one, you better get yourself down to a 7/11 in a hurry.

Unless they extend this one too.
