I never thought I’d say eating a doughnut would be a challenge. But this one was.

I have been keen to return to Milk Bar by Café Ish since my last visit. This time around, I chose the Crème Brûlée from a tempting range of choices.
My plan was to munch on it while walking to another destination. I quickly realised this wasn’t going to plan.

First bite and custard came flowing out of the hole in the top, like water out of a whale spout. I had custard all over my hands and lips.
So I stopped at a convenient spot on Redfern Street and polished it off.
So delicious. Messy, but positively delicious.

The toffee on the top covered my fingers. The custard went everywhere. My dog eats with more elegance. But nothing was going to stop me.
The custard is not too sweet – the way it should be, perhaps just a little too runny. The dough is spongy soft. Perfectly cooked. The flavour is unique too – I reckon I could now tell a doughnut from Milk Bar by Café Ish blindfolded.

There are plenty of other flavours to try. I have my eye on the Maple Bacon. I will be back soon to take on another challenge.

PS. I did go back and I got another Crème Brûlée doughnut, this time for my daughter who loves anything Crème Brûlée. Pictured below.
