My daughter recently went to Tokyo in Japan. Regulations being as they are meant she couldn’t bring me back a fresh doughnut, so she found this one to bring back for me.
It’s called Young Doughnut.

Perhaps they use the word ‘Young’ because it’s small.
There’s not much else on the package that I can read, but I could tell it was a packet of four small cinnamon doughnuts. You can see how small they are by the photo with the 50 cent piece below. They weren’t much bigger.

What were they like?
They were okay. Nothing fantastic. But they might have been better if they were fresher and didn’t have to travel from Japan to Sydney. I’ll never know.
They were very similar to many cinnamon doughnuts you’d find in Australia, except a lot smaller. They tasted similar. They weren’t too sweet even though they had plenty of sugar coating.

It’s always interesting to find things like this and see how they compare with other doughnuts. I couldn’t see them taking off in Australia, but in Japan with its huge population, I can understand why they’d sell.

Hi Dom, would love you to try a kkwabaegi (Kwa/bay/gee), it’s a twisted Korean yeasted donut. You can find them at Korean stores and some Asian baked good stores.
