There is a small village of shops in Naremburn on Sydney’s lower north shore. About 50% of those shops seem to be cafes.

One of those cafes is Cornucopia Bakery. Word is they have the best coffee of the lot.

They also have some donuts. The day I was there, the choice was either jam or caramel iced. I got a Jam Donut.

While not expensive, it was fairly small.

It had a blob of jam on top which filtered down inside the doughnut as a small amount of filling. The jam wasn’t labelled as a flavour, and I’m guessing that it was commercially-made jam. It had no seeds (which usually suggests it was flavoured apple puree). The jam was a nice consistency – sticky and sweet and not at all runny.

The dough was the yellow variety. It was soft and airy and bread-like. Not my favourite dough, but lends itself well to the jam, making it a style that I find a lot in Italian bombolone. It would go well with a coffee.

Cornucopia Bakery has two stores – the one at Naremburn where I went and also one in Castle Cove.
