DomNuts is dedicating the month of February to Pineapple Doughnuts – specifically the quest to find a great one. Each week will be a new review about a pineapple doughnut I have found recently. The final February installment is about one from Campbelltown…

Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. I think I have finally found a great modern-day pineapple doughnut.

I went to Macarthur Square in Campbelltown recently to visit a place I’ve had my eye on for some time – Specialty Donuts. I was there early in the morning and they were already busy, mainly with seniors getting their coffee and doughnut fix. I know why they were busy – their doughnuts are very good.

I got the pineapple doughnut, of course.

This one brought me back to the days when the pineapple doughnuts were delicious. As I’ve said before, back in the day, there were two types of pineapple doughnuts. The first was soaked in syrup. The other had a flakey glazing on it.

The Specialty Donuts version is closest to the latter with the flakey glazing.

The pineapple flavour was decently strong, and I think this is what made the difference above other pineapple doughnuts I’ve tried. There was plenty of pineapple glazing.

Also, the dough was soft, fluffy and dense. It tasted lovely.

The other good thing is that it was reasonably priced at under $4.

Perhaps the secret is that Specialty Donuts has been around for over 40 years. They have a lot of other flavours as well, including Pineapple Doughnuts with an extraordinary amount of cream filling.

If you are hunting for the genuine pineapple doughnut experience, try Specialy Donuts at Campbelltown.

I’ll certainly be back to Specialty Donuts to try some of their other doughnuts.
