My daughter wanted to get me a gift, so she thought, “Dad’s grumpy and he loves doughnuts – that’s it! A gift voucher from Grumpy Donuts.”
With that backhanded compliment aside, I was grateful for the chance to finally try Grumpy Donuts. If you don’t live near Camperdown in Sydney, it’s a bit difficult to get to.
So, I got a bus down Broadway and dropped in. I had heard about queues, but on this morning, there were only 2 people in front of me.

There were 2 people behind the counter serving and while they were pleasant, they sure didn’t want to make it look like they were happy to be there. They need some lessons in smiling at customers. Or were they living up to the name?

I got a few doughnuts, and the one I’m going to talk about here is the Vanilla Glaze.
It was, in a word, delicious.
My favourite type of doughnuts are the deep fried ones that are spongy when you bite into them. This was one of those. There are only a few places in Sydney that do them like this.

It reminded me of doughnuts I had in America a few years ago. And Americans know how to make delicious doughnuts.
While the dough was excellent, I couldn’t fault the glaze either. Sweet and tasty and a good example of what is sometimes called ‘original’ or ‘plain’ glazing.
My first Grumpy Donuts doughnut left me anything but grumpy.

Love the little FYI at the bottom this time, supporting businesses doesn’t seem to be the ‘in’ thing anymore. I read every blog you post and enjoy your storytelling so I’m glad you are doing this anonymously and not hoping for handouts 🙂 keep it up Domnuts! Looking forward to your next post.
