It doesn’t seem that long ago that products with fake chocolate had to use the description ‘choc’. For example, ‘Choc flavoured ice confection’ was not made with real chocolate, nor was it real ice-cream. I think those days have now thankfully completely passed and the wretched fake stuff has disappeared.

However, by habit, I still get hesitant when I see the word ‘choc’. Like I did when I saw a ‘Choc Custard’ doughnut at Milk Bar by Café Ish. But I put my faith in their hands and went for it, looking forward to that rare treat, chocolate custard.

Boy, am I stupid.

Choc Custard doughnut

It’s not a doughnut with chocolate flavoured custard. It’s a doughnut with chocolate icing and vanilla custard. I discovered this when I took the first bite.

As incredibly delicious as it was, I was somewhat disappointed that the custard wasn’t chocolate flavoured.

Hey, it’s vanilla custard!

I should point out that the doughnut was transported home on a hot day, so the icing melted a bit. But just like all the doughnuts I’ve had from Milk Bar by Café Ish, it was still a pure delight.
