This Red Velvet Zonut from Zumbo is a bombardment of energetic flavours relentlessly attacking your taste buds from every possible angle.
The sign says it in a straightforward fashion and without a capital letter in sight: “filled with red velvet cake mousse, raspberry gel & finished with vanilla whipped ganache & red velvet cake crumbs.”
But in reality, it’s not the least bit straightforward.
From the first messy bite to the last glorious mouthful, this zonut takes you places you have never been before.
After a couple of bites, it’s a ridiculous mess, but there’s no stopping.
You can select which part you’re going to eat to individualise the flavours or go for it all at once for a unique concoction of sweet and tart, crispy and slushy, soft and softer. It just depends how big your gob is.
My only advice is not to arrive too late. They sell out.
