Whenever I go to Melbourne, I make sure I get some doughnuts from Walker’s. As far as the chains go in Melbourne, Walker’s have the best doughnuts. Not necessarily the best service, but the best doughnuts. (Their service is always pretty ordinary).
They are well known for their hot jam doughnuts, but this time I got a Pineapple Ring.
It was almost completely covered in pineapple icing. I like it when there is a lot of icing all over the doughnut, not just on top.
Boy, was it sweet.
With a close inspection of the doughnut, I discovered why.
There was actually 2 layers of icing. If you have a look closely at the photo of the opened doughnut, you’ll see the yellow pineapple icing on top. And underneath is a layer of white vanilla icing. Extra sweetness. Maybe a bit too sweet.
Still a nice doughnut. the pineapple icing had a subtle pineapple zing.
The dough was nice and soft.
Walker’s Doughnuts are an institution in Melbourne. It’s a shame that their trial in Sydney didn’t work out – which had something to do with the owner of the Sydney business.
