I think the Self Raised Bread Shoppe in Carlton is fairly new. I have never seen it before and happened to be passing by one morning. Of course, the doughnuts caught my eye.

Carlton is in the south of Sydney and the shop is right near the football ground currently called Netstrata Stadium where NRL is played.

There were only two doughnut options – Lemon Meringue and Boston Cream. Both looked amazingly delicious. I opted for the Boston Cream only because the Lemon Meringue looked like it might get damaged if I had it take away.

In short – a great doughnut. Absolutely delicious. I haven’t had a doughnut similar in Australia, but it does remind me of the wonderful doughnut I had in Queenstown, New Zealand from Ferg Baker.

The cream was fresh, creamy, and about as good as you’ll get in a doughnut. There was a perfect amount too.

The dough was perhaps a smidgen over-cooked, but that didn’t detract from the overall wonderful flavour.

The doughnut had a sifting of soft sugar on top.

A superb doughnut, especially if you like cream.

I’ll be back for the Lemon Meringue Doughnut ASAP.
