A few years ago, I travelled down to Berry from Sydney especially to try a donut from the Famous Berry Donut Van. I mean, this is probably the most well-known donut establishment in New South Wales. I got some donuts and was rather disappointed. They simply did not live up to the hype.
Fast forward a few years and my daughter brings me one home after a trip to Berry.
Still disappointed.
Why do people love these donuts so much? I can point you in the direction of many other places where you’ll get better donuts without having to make your way to Berry.

They’re not bad. They’re just not as good as people make them out to be.
Why?
Firstly, they are over-cooked. The outside is tough. Some places make the outsides deliberately crispy, but these aren’t.
Secondly, the flavour isn’t as wonderful as I’d expect.
Okay, so this time I didn’t have the donut straight from the fryer – it was delivered home to me by my daughter, so it was a few hours after being cooked. Still, I’ve had plenty of donuts hours after cooking that have stood the test of time.

Look – if people want to enjoy these donuts and say they are spectacular, I’m not going to argue. Every person’s taste is unique.
I just reckon they are over-rated and there are many better donuts in NSW.
