If you want a great day out with friends or family, go to a Swans AFLW game at Henson Park. It’s a fantastic event with food and drink stalls and you can sit on the hill and watch the girls playing some good footy.
Grumpy Donuts had a food stall the last time I went.
I need to preface this by saying that I think Grumpy Donuts are arguably the best doughnuts in Sydney. Why I say that is because the doughnuts I got at Henson Park weren’t at their peak.
Firstly, by the time I got there, they had nearly sold out and only had 2 flavours left. What’s more, they had been kept in an open van for hours, which is not an ideal condition for doughnuts. And it was a hot day.
So with a choice of 2 flavours, I got one of each – Cinnamon and Buttered Toast.
I’ll talk here about the Buttered Toast.
Buttered Toast wouldn’t be my preferred option, but I got it anyway.
It wasn’t as soft and juicy as the doughnuts I have had from Grumpy Donuts before, likely because of the earlier mentioned conditions.
The coating on top had a very sweet vanilla icing with crumbled toast. A bit too sweet for my tastes.
The bottom line is that if you’re at the footy on a hot day and you want a doughnut, go and get it early.
