If you want a donut from Pierre in West Oatley, you had better hurry. It’s just a six-week pop-up and only on weekends. I’ll tell you the story a bit later. For now, I’ll talk about the Custard Donut I got.

On the first weekend, the store was planned to be open from 9am to 3pm. However, on both days they sold out very early. I know on the Sunday, the store was closed by 10:30am with an apology in the window.
Nonetheless, I got a Custard Donut because my sister queued up before I had a chance to get there.
In brief, it was very nice donut.

It was a good size and a good price.
It had loads of homemade vanilla custard which was extremely creamy and soft, and just a little bit runny. It wasn’t too sweet. The custard was packed in the centre and it had a dollop on top.
I’m pleased I got that one because I think it may have been a stand-out among the choices due to the magnificent custard.
The dough was quite airy. It was soft and super fresh.
Wow. Great donut.

Now I’ll talk about the story behind this pop-up.
Pierre ran the restaurant in the premises where the pop-up is. Unfortunately, his business was unsustainable so he closed. However, he still had some rent to pay. So he is doing the pop-up donuts on weekends for the duration of his lease. Smart thinking, and by the looks of it, a real winner. The locals have obviously latched onto the chance to get some great donuts.
I don’t know when you’re reading this, but if it’s after 11 May 2025, you’re too late. That’s his last day of trading.
