I recently visited Donut Garage in Marrickville and picked up a couple of lovely doughnuts.
On this occasion, I’ll talk about the Jam Donut.

The thing with jam doughnuts is that they can be filled with real jam or fake jam. Not that the fake jam is all that bad. It’s just nicer having real jam, which is usually either homemade or supplied from a boutique jam maker. The fake jam is commercially supplied and is usually seedless and actually made from apple puree with flavour added. Doughnuts with fake jam are usually cheaper than ones with homemade jam, and the jam is sweeter than homemade jam.

The jam in the Jam Donut I got from Donut Garage is the fake jam. Like I said, that’s not bad, it’s just nicer having real jam.
The doughnut was very nice. The dough was cooked perfectly and the jam was a good consistency for a doughnut filling. There was a good amount in it too. It also had a coating of sugar on the outside.

I like the doughnuts at Donut Garage. It’a s shame that for me it’s a bit out of the way, because I’d visit more often. The place itself is quite interesting with a selection of motor sports memorabilia.
