One of the many millions of DomNuts readers, Issyd90, prompted me to check out Donut Garage in Marrickville. They opened earlier in 2024, but I hadn’t gotten around to trying them. To be honest, one of the reasons was that I didn’t expect much from a place that was both a doughnut shop and garage. The two just don’t seem to go together in perfect harmony.

I’m pleased to say I was wrong. The donuts are delicious.

I got two donuts. The one I’ll talk about here is the Pineapple Donut, because whenever I go somewhere new, if they have a Pineapple Donut, that’s the one I have to try first.

The dough was spectacularly soft and moist. It’s exactly the type of dough in a doughnut I love the most. It’s similar to the dough from Grumpy Donuts, who I rank among the very best in Sydney. The dough was risen beautifully and cooked perfectly.

The pineapple glaze was good without being amazing. It was a light coating and the pineapple zing was only just noticeable.

Still a wonderful donut – big, soft, and tasty. One that melts in the mouth.

The place itself is interesting.

It’s tucked away in a side street. The donut shop is a hole in the wall at the front. But inside is like a mini museum for petrol heads. I didn’t take many photos because the guys serving were watching me like I was about to jump on the Honda and ride away into the Marrickville traffic. But if you have an interest in cars, bikes, and doughnuts, this might be your heaven. They also have their own merch, much of which unfortunately has a Marlboro Cigarette design, and there’s no way this anti-smoker is going to wear anything that suggests I support smoking.

A trip to the Donut Garage is worth it. Take note of their opening hours before you set off.
