My go-to place in Sutherland is The Station Patisserie. The food there is made in-house and all tastes great. They have lots of home-made sweet options, including, of course, doughnuts.
On my most recent visit, I got a Custard Donut.

Interestingly, they placed a small piece of paper on top of the doughnut before putting it in the bag for me to protect the blob of custard on top. One of my gripes about other places is that they go to lots of trouble with presentation only for it all to be ruined by the salesperson putting a doughnut in the bag and having jam, custard or icing sticking to the top of the bag. So well done to The Station Patisserie.
The doughnut was very good.

The dough was quite chewy. It was covered in cinnamon sugar. The taste is quite unique to The Station Patisserie, and is used in other things they make, including the Cream Bun which shared the window display with the Custard Donut – see photo.

There was loads of custard inside the doughnut. It made the doughnut heavy for its size. The custard was sweet but not overly so. It was a very good consistency for a doughnut filing. It probably wasn’t homemade custard but when you’re not paying a premium, it’s not so bad.
Food at The Station Patisserie is good quality and always reasonably priced.
