When I bought this doughnut from a place called Deli Fresco in Westfield Horsnby, I learned that the polish version of a doughnut is called a Paczki.

I also learned that in Poland the word ‘plum’ is spelled ‘plumb’. Or maybe that’s just a typo on their sign. In fact, I’m sure it’s a typo.

Deli Fresco is a Polish Deli in Westfield Hornsby. When I went recently, they had loads of foods for sale, including cured meats as well as cooked food. Out the front they had a special section with some hot pastries and Paczki.
I was served by a guy who didn’t look one bit Polish. But that doesn’t matter. As long as the food is Polish.
They had a few variations of their Paczki for sale. I chose the glazed one with plum/plumb jam. It looked fantastic and was only $5.
It turned out to be pretty good.
I didn’t eat it for a few hours after I bought it, so the glaze wasn’t at its peak in my photos. You can see it looks better in the display case.
The glaze was plain vanilla and was very nice. The dough was firm and chewy, a lot like a bread roll.
The jam was not too sweet, which is what I like.

My only complaint was that I would have liked more jam. Nonetheless, the jam was good and while probably not homemade, it wasn’t some cheap stuff that would have let the whole doughnut down.
