If you saw ‘LA’ and ‘Beverly Hills’ in the title and thought this blog was about somewhere in the USA, sorry, but it’s in Sydney, Australia.

LA Donuts is a very busy and top quality doughnut store in Sydney’s southern suburbs, just down the road from Hurstville.

When they opened a few years ago, I was one of their first customers. Since then, they have sold possibly millions of doughnuts and expanded their range immensely. The display caseses are loaded with fabulous flavours, which makes choosing very difficult. In fact, two young girls who walked in before me invited me to be served first as they were still deciding on which flavours to get. So was I.

On this recent visit, I got a Banana Custard Donut.

It was very sweet. The banana icing was where the sweetness came from. The custard wasn’t too sweet, which is how it should be.

I didn’t detect any banana flavour in the custard. I think it was all in the icing. The icing also had a strip of nutmeg on top to give it a good appearance and make it look different to the other doughnuts with yellow icing.

The doughnuts at LA Donuts are always lovely and soft. The dough is cooked beautifully and has a good ‘give’ when you bite into it.

The custard was soft and just a little runny, and had a nice flavour. There was a perfect amount of custard in it too.

The Banana Custard Donut was lovely, but be warned, it is very sweet.
