I was in Caringbah early one morning and noticed Simple Simon Pies was opened. Caringbah is in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire and the shop is right near the entrance to Caringbah train station.

Just after I walked in, the guy out the back called out to me, letting me know he wouldn’t be long. Next minute, he’s walking out with two trays of freshly made iced doughnuts. I asked him if he just made them, and he said he did. What timing!

I got a caramel iced doughnut.

It had sprinkles, which is usually a giveaway that these doughnuts are for kids, but damn the kids, I was there first.

It was a delicious doughnut.

The dough was soft and a little bit chewy, not too airy, just the way I like my doughnuts.

The caramel icing was fairly sweet. It was the solid type of icing that cracks when you bite into it.

The sprinkles made it a bit sweeter than it needed to be, but added a nice eye-catching appearance.

A great doughnut.

To accompany my doughnut, I had an organic tea. It washed it down perfectly.
